Your hosts at St Ronan’s Place are Maggi and Gordon Thomson. We will try to be around to greet you personally and give you an introduction to the cottage and its facilities. We live in Kilmaronock Manse just beside the cottage and while we will give you privacy we are also available in case there are any issues, or you would like information about the surrounding area. Having lived in the area for over 25 years, we can provide advice on places to eat, drink, walk, take part in outdoor activities and relax.

Driving Directions

From Glasgow, via Erskine Bridge (A898), take A82 toward Balloch and Stirling’. Follow this road, passing Dumbarton to the roundabout with "Flying Geese". Turn right towards Stirling along the A811. This is known as the "Old Military Road". Follow this road, through Balloch, then Gartocharn. Approximately 2 miles further on, round a sharp right-hand bend, you'll see St Ronans on your left, immediately before the Kilmaronock Church. From Edinburgh or Stirling. Follow signs for A811, Erskine Bridge. After Drymen the road takes a right hand turn at a junction. Travel for 2 miles; the road goes down a dip and back up. On your left hand side is Badshalloch Farm. AAs you pass the small cottage on your right, you will see a track on the right hand side just after the lay-by at the cemetery. Take that lane and St Ronan’s place is the first property on the left. Enter the courtyard and park up there. Please inform St Ronans Cottage of your expected arrival time in advance.

"Great hosts, good food, beautiful hiking paths."

Are pets allowed?
Yes, we accommodate pets.
Is there a restaurant/pub within walking distance?
The nearest pub or restaurant is 3 miles away in the village of Drymen. Unfortunately it is along a busy road with no pavement. However there is a regular local bus service which runs until 10.30 pm. There is also a reliable taxi service.
Can you recommend somewhere for good food?
Yes The Clachan Inn, Drymen is superb. However in season it is very busy and we advise booking in advance which we will be happy to do for you.
